The Florence-Muscle Shoals Metropolitan Statistical Area (MSA) population 1/ increased from 117,743 in 1970 to 147,161 in 2010. That was an increase of 25.0 percent.
The foreign-born (FB) population increased from 243 in 1970 to 2,651 in 2010. That was an increase of 990.9 percent. The foreign-born share changed from 0.2 percent to 1.8 percent.
The share of the overall population that was native-born (NB) increased by 23.0 percent.

The first chart below shows the three population change factors for three periods adjusted for annual average amounts. Natural change (B-D) was the major factor adding population in the first period, while NDM did so in the two most recent periods.
The second chart shows the same data but with an adjustment to reflect births to immigrants shifted to NIM. In it, the factors maintained the same roles in adding population.
